How to Participate in Burning Japan
Participation is at the heart of Burning Japan, the event only exists because attendees, all together, make it happen. Whether you volunteer, build with a theme camp, share your art, spin a set, or play with fire, what matters is that you engage. You’re also welcome to sign up for more than one role. Here’s a breakdown of how to get involved:
🙋Volunteer
Volunteering is one of the best ways to plug into the community and make the event happen. You have a few options:
- Join the Volunteer Camp: Team up with other volunteers, share resources, and work shifts together as part of a dedicated crew. Great if you want built-in community and support.
- Volunteer Solo: Prefer to camp independently? You can still sign up for volunteer shifts on your own and contribute without joining the Volunteer Camp.
🩺We’re especially in need of nurses, doctors, and anyone with first aid experience, if that’s you, please consider volunteering.
We’re also looking for volunteer organizers to help build the Volunteer Camp before the gates open, and SNS content creators to help engage the community on social media.
🏕️ Theme Camps
Theme Camps are the heart of our social fabric. No Theme Camps, No Burn. If you’re part of a group with a shared vision: whether it’s a bar, a lounge, a workshop space, an interactive experience, or anything else your imagination can dream up, you can register as a Theme Camp.
Theme Camps typically offer something to the community: shelter, activities, art, or simply a great vibe. If you’re organizing one, plan ahead for placement, infrastructure, and what you’ll be gifting.
🎟️Registering your Theme Camp will also get you discount code for your members, so make sure to sign up.
Looking to join a camp instead of starting your own? Ask around in the Discord: many camps are happy to welcome new members.
🎨 Art, Music & Performance
Want to bring an art installation, play music (DJ set or live performance), or perform, but don’t have a Theme Camp to host you? We can help. This is for individuals or groups without a Theme Camp who want support finding a place to share their work.
If you’re already part of a Theme Camp, you don’t need to apply, your camp will host your art, music, or performance.
💰Registered physical art projects are also eligible for an Art Grant. (Note: the Art Grant applies to physical art installations only — not music or performance.)

🔥 Fire Team
Playing with fire? Fire Team Camp brings fire dance to Burning Japan. If you’re involved in any fire performance, you’ll need to register with the Fire Team so that your safety plan, perimeter, and fire dance schedule can be properly coordinated with the event’s safety team.
