Notice on Introducing a Problem-Solving Forum

Shown in English. Dates and “on sale” lines belong to the day the notice was published.

This is tejimax from the organizing team. We are letting you know that we have added a problem-solving forum to the Burning Japan community site, so we can take on the various problems that come up during the event.

What is the problem-solving forum?

An event is not only the fun parts. All kinds of trouble happen too.
The problem-solving forum is a place to put problems that arise during the event in front of the whole community and discuss how to resolve them.
Its purpose is for the people directly involved, others connected to the issue, and every Burning Japan participant to share information and work on the problem together.

Our goal is that even when a problem happens, it is resolved on the spot through conversation and support from the people involved and from those who saw it.
Right now, though, if you run into trouble you may not be able to talk about it in the moment, or you may not get the right support from the people around you. Please do not hold it in alone. Share it on the forum.

Below are some examples from the past.

■ Examples of participants breaking the rules

Someone opened another member's cooler without asking, drank the beer, left it open, and spoiled the other food
Someone handed out shop flyers inside the venue and did commercial promotion
Someone brought a pet into the venue even though pets are not allowed in
Someone improperly parked for a long time in the parking area used for entry
Someone ignored Leave No Trace and left trash behind
Someone used a generator without a permit in an area where an application is required

■ Examples of harassment

Someone kept making advances after the other person had refused
Someone was touched on the body without being asked first
Someone walked naked through an open area, and people were shown something they did not want to see

Depending on what happened, it may be hard to talk about it in public, or you may want to stay anonymous. In that case, please contact us the usual way.
contact@burningjapan.org
Only the people who handle inquiries among the organizers can read this address, and they will share any information afterward with care.

This forum is meant to be used constructively, to move the event forward. It is not a place to publicly shame someone or to vent. We want to build up examples of problems and what to do about them — "in a case like this, this is what you can say" — so that next time we can speak up on the spot and step in to support the people involved.

To say it again, the goal of this effort is for the forum itself to become unnecessary, and for friction, when it happens, to be resolved on the spot through conversation between the people involved and support from those around them.
